![]() I think that the full ticket prices are expensive for the 90-minute show, but luckily there are various discounts available if you look for them. It didn’t seem as though there was a bad seat in the relatively small theater. We liked our seats in the center section of row G, which is right behind the aisle that cuts across the center of the auditorium. This show is playing until Januat the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place. And the hilarious props and costumes probably gave me the biggest laughs of the night. I enjoy traditional renditions of Christmas carols, but transforming them into rock songs kicked them up a notch. Like D.D., I hadn’t anticipated the clever twist at the end, probably because I was so besotted by the production. I couldn’t help singing and clapping along when prompted to by the cast. By the end of the play, I empathized with D.D., the lead singer who learns that resisting the spirit of Christmas is futile. His funny tale about heavy metal musicians who make a satanic blood pact is surprisingly heartwarming and family-friendly. ![]() The triple-threat cast does a fine job acting, singing, and playing their own instruments. Despite myself, I smiled from the moment Dee Snider stepped onstage to greet the audience until the last rousing song. I’m not a big heavy metal fan, and I don’t like rushing the Christmas season so attending a performance of “Dee Snider’s Rock & Roll Christmas Tale” two days before Thanksgiving was counterintuitive. Theatre, Nederlander Theatre, and the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University and just off the Magnificent Mile, the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place.
